I have two releases that came on the heels of one another. The first is a historical set in the 1800s in TN, and was inspired by Sparta, where I lived for a short time. It's a sweet romance between a sassy tomboy and a bossy foreman who can't decide if Ellie Fountain is a child or a woman. I received a recent review that wasn't as favorable as others, but it was based more on the expectations of the reviewer that were not met in my story. Like she said, if you want John Wayne and Clint Eastwood, you won't find them, but I'm not sure why she expected to after reading the blurb provided that told her exactly what the story was about. Oh well...you can't please everyone, but I do hope you'll give Sparta Rose a try. It's available at http://www.eternalpress.com in ebook and at Amazon.com in print.
ReplyDeleteMy second release is a historical romance set during World War II and is a tad spicier. It's a story inspired by old pictures taken of my mother and dad, and stories I've heard about romances that blossomed during USO dances. It's a novella, available at Red Rose Publishing, http://www.redrosepublishing.com and I hope you'll help me move into the top ten. I'd be thrilled. :) You can view the video of Tender Return on my blog at http://mizging.blogspot.com. Ya'll come!
If you love the British Romantic Poets, you'll love CHASING BYRON and UNHEARD MELODIES: CONFESSIONS OF A POETIC MUSE.
ReplyDeleteIn CHASING BYRON, Innkeeper's daughter Mariah Woodhouse can't believe her luck when the dashing Lord Byron takes up residence in his country estate in her tiny hometown of Southwell, Nottinghamshire. To seem more appealing, she convinces her best friend, Walter, to pretend to be her fiancee. Byron takes the bait and, soon, Mariah is left to decide between two very different men -- the roguish lord and the shy library clerk who has silently loved her since they were children.
UNHEARD MELODIES: CONFESSIONS OF A POETIC MUSE tells the true story of the romance between John Keats and Fanny Brawne -- from Fanny's perspective! Still in her teens when they met, Fanny inspired Keats to write the great poems his reputation now rests on. Though disapproving parents and jealous friends attempted to keep them apart, John and Fanny fought for a life together...but at what cost?
Both are available in print, kindle, and e-book form. UNHEARD MELODIES was nominated for Best Book of 2008 on Long And Short Reviews.

Hi Nan, thanks for the promo opp.
ReplyDeleteMy latest release is Cat's Curse, the first book in trilogy titled Dark Goddess. Cat's Curse is a Celtic historical romance/fantasy set in early medieval Scotland.
Blurb:
Cardea, follower of the Great Goddess is cursed to live an eternity as a blood drinker. For centuries she has lived with hate hunting and feeding off humans. Now she finds herself at the end of a sword blade held by the most handsome and arrogant man she has ever met.
Aedan mac Gabrain, prince of Dal Riata and a Christian, trusts no one after suffering a curse that keeps him from touching any females or he will turn into a black cat like his brother. He especially distrusts this strange female who could be the one who cursed his clan since no one knows Cat Anna's true face.
Can two tortured souls find love while battling a dark goddess determined to destroy them?
Short Excerpt:
She froze. Fear struck her like a resounding hammer blow. Could they be demon hunters coming for me? Demon hunters used hounds because animals could sense her even when she became one with the shadows. In her haste to hunt the human, she failed to notice the scent of hounds. Before she could react, two hounds the size of calves had her pinned to the ground, stunned. They licked her face, showering her face with drool.
A man’s deep voice shouted out a command for the dogs to back off. Cardea sputtered, struggling to get the slavering beasts off her.
“Fian, Donnan!” The two hounds backed off, obeying their master’s stern command.
Cardea pushed on her arms to sit up and faced the sharp edge of a sword blade, the sight of which made her draw in a sharp breath and remain still. The splash of pale moonlight revealed a man with long black hair standing over her, his great height matching a towering oak, his arms thick and muscled as oak branches.
“I would not move if I were ye, lass.” The man’s thick brogue washed over her, sweet and honey-like.

Well then, I have the epic story of German immigrants coming to the wild Texas frontier in teh 1840's, in the "Adelsverein Trilogy", which is available through Amazon.com, and from the printer/distributer.
ReplyDeleteBook One - The Gathering tells about how one family braved the sea voyage and the hardships of the early years, of how the district around present-day Fredericksburg, Texas was settled, and how they made a peace treaty with the Penateka Comanche. Book Two - The Sowing tells of what happened during the Civil War, when the German settlers were Unionists and for abolition of slavery - not popular in a Confederate State. And Book Three - the Harvesting tells how they managed to recover and prosper in their new country.

"Chambers of Death", my sixth 13th century medieval mystery, is now out from Poisoned Pen Press. Like a flock of children, I look at each one in the series, see the faults, but love them nonetheless. Thank goodness for libraries! Giving one of my books a try comes at the perfect price. Hopefully, they will entertain, intrigue, and the characters will work the same magic on new readers as they do on me. Well, they may be kinder to you. Me, they keep at work with little mercy. I am writing the seventh book and have an idea for the eighth...
ReplyDeleteMy novel, Hitler and Mars Bars, is the story of a German boy brought to Ireland by the Red Cross after WW2 to recover from the horrors of war. It's the story of his journey through loss, loneliness, fear, uncertainty, love and hope in war-torn Germany and post-war rural Ireland. Find out more about the book at my website www.geocities.com/dianne_ascroft. The book may be ordered from my website, the publisher at www.trafford.com, www.amazon.com and many other online retailers.
ReplyDeleteWhat a good idea, Nan. I don't have a book coming out in the near future, but I am happy to report that Devil's Brood, the final book in my trilogy about Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine, is now available in paperback, thanks to Ballantine in the US and Penguin in the UK. I think the Penguin cover is stunning; you can see it on my website. And Ballantine has also reissued the first two books in the trilogy, When Christ and His Saints Slept and Time and Chance. Meanwhile, I am keeping very busy with Henry and Eleanor's son in Lionheart. The Third Crusade is finally under way, so I hope to have a few minutes to catch my breath before he starts ordering his "lowly scribe" around again.
ReplyDeleteTHE SECRET HUNTER - Regency Historical
ReplyDeleteWhen Gwenllian Lloyd literally knocks dashing Daniel Wyckliff off his feet in Bath's Sydney Gardens, she is unaware intrigue looms before her. The year is 1804. England fears invasion from Napoleon's France. Gwenllian has just met the man of her dreams, but is he a man she can trust?
"With a wounded hero to sigh over, his precious princess, scandalous secrets about to be exposed and a rambunctious, hairy pug of a matchmaker, THE SECRET HUNTER is definitely a delightful historical." - J.T., Romance Junkies
